How many people are in the room?

Houdini- 10 seats available. 

Aztec Temple -12 seats available. 

If you buyout the entire room and wish to add extras, you can either have them pay cash at check in or you can pre-pay with card via phone, during office hours. (Houdini- up to 2 extras,  Aztec- up to 3 extras)

Please note, if you do not book the full 10-12 seats, you will be  playing the game with other parties.

Is there a minimum number of people I need in order to book? 

No minimum but please be aware, if you book for less than the 10-12 room capacity, you will be paired/playing the game with other participants who book out the remaining seats. If you wish to make it private for just your group, you will need to book out the entire room of 10-12 spots even if you do not have that many people in your group.

What happens if I’m late?
You must arrive promptly at your reserved time.

It is mandatory that everyone arrives on time to ensure that the game starts promptly. No refunds or reschedules will be offered for participants who are late, miss their game, or are a no-show.

Are there any age restrictions?

All minors must be accompanied by an adult at check in. While we recommend these games for 16 and up, if you have a young Sherlock Holmes on your hands they can participate as long as they are at least 6 years of age. Guidelines for those under the age of 18 are as follows:

5 and under: will not be allowed in the game. This includes toddles/babies, even if you have a baby carrier or offer to hold them, we unfortunately cannot allow them in the game nor do we have a waiting area so make sure you plan ahead for a sitter for the young ones.  ​

6-12: must be accompanied by an adult/parent/guardian during the game.
13-17: can participate in the game without an adult but will need to be accompanied by adult at check-in.

Please note, if you bring a young Sherlock Holmes that is 6 years or older, they cannot be picked up or carried during the game. 


Each participant will need to sign our release waiver form in order to partake in our escape room. This release covers any potential accidents that may occur and give The Great Room Escape San Diego all rights to use any pictures or video of attendees captured while at our facility. 

All MINORS will need an adult/parent/guardian to complete and sign their Waiver.  

Minors that do not turn in a completed waiver will need to have the accompanying adult sign it at check in.  

If you wish to pre-fill the waiver, you have two options:

1) Download, print, complete by hand and turn in at check in. 

Why do we need a waiver? Is this scary?

While our rooms are not intended to be scary, some of our rooms have a ghostly/spooky theme along with special effects throughout the games that may startle you, as means of fun distraction of course!. While we have rules to make sure the game is as safe as possible, we cannot always control how participants will act when they are under pressure, startled, or over-excited. We also monitor the games to keep them as safe as possible and if anyone needs to exit the room for any reason, your room monitor will escort you to the exit. Please just be aware, you will not be allowed to re-join the game nor will you receive a refund if anyone in your group decides not to enter the game.  

Can I Cancel or Reschedule my reservation?
If you need to change the date, time, number of participants or simply cancel your existing booking, you must do so no later than 24 hours before your check in time. These changes can be made through the "View/Change Booking" link in your confirmation email. If it is within 24 hours of your game time, you will not be able to change/cancel your reservation.

Please note, leaving a message/email outside of office hours will not qualify as making your change. You will need to go through your confirmation email no later than 24 hours before your check in time. 

No refunds or reschedules will be offered if you need to change/cancel your reservation within 24 hours of check in or are a no-show.    

What is your Refund Policy?

If you cancel in accordance with policy, you will be able to receive a refund.

To Cancel: You must cancel your booking, through the link in your confirmation email, no later than 24 hours before your game time.

To Change/Reschedule: You must make any changes/reschedule, through the link in your confirmation email, no later than 24 hours before your game time.

These actions must be done through your confirmation email. Leaving a message or email does not qualify as making your change.  

Once you are within 24 hours of your reserved game, you cannot make any changes nor cancel.

Sorry, no refunds will be given for cancellations/changes within 24 hours of game, no-shows, late participants who miss game, traffic delays, weather, etc. 


What if I want just my group to be in the room?
If you want to have just your friends or family experience the Great Room Escape, simply buy out the entire room or contact us for details on arranging a special game during our off-hours.

What happens if I don’t make it out in an hour?
Don’t worry, if time expires, we will let you out of the room...... but you will have your photo taken showing that you did not escape! 

What if I can’t solve a riddle or clue?
That’s why teamwork is so important. Work as a group to solve the clues. There will also be a room monitor in case your entire group gets stuck.

Can I use my Cell Phone?
No. Cell phones, cameras, and other electronic devices must be turned off before entering the room. You can only rely on your brain!

What do I need to bring with me?
Bring your inner detective! Food and Drink will not be allowed in the game and personal belongings will need to be stowed away for the duration of game.

Do you serve Alcohol? 

No, we do not serve alcohol and it is not allowed at our location. For safety precautions, if our staff deems that you appear under the influence or of disorderly conduct, you will not be allowed to participate and/or will be removed from the game and premises without refund. 

What should I wear?
We suggest wearing comfortable clothes/shoes as you will be standing and moving around for about an hour. We do not require you to do anything overly physical or get your clothes dirty. While we do not allow running, we cannot always control how other participants will act in the game so we always recommend closed-toe shoes but not required. 

Do I have to be really smart?
Nothing in the game requires special training or skills. You just have to be willing to work as a team and be persistent.

Is it handicap and/or wheelchair accessible?

What is NOT allowed?
No Children under the age of 6 (including babies)

No Filming, Recording, Go Pros, Photography (other than group photos outside of rooms)

No use of cell phones or wifi enabled devices during game

No food/drinks/alcohol on site. Intoxicated participants will forfeit playing in the game without refund. 
All personal belongings will be stowed during game, you can only use your Brain!
